Becos da Realeza is a powerful audiovisual experience from Barbarize, the musical and performative collective from Recife, Brazil, led by Bárbara Vitória (Babi) and YuriLumin. The project blends music, theater, dance, and visual art into a vibrant, multi-sensory show that celebrates identity, resistance, and Black culture in Recife’s periphery.
The Story
Set in the favela of Bode, in the Pina neighborhood, Becos da Realeza explores daily life, joy, struggle, and community through a highly choreographed mix of live performance and cinematic storytelling. The film/show immerses viewers in the rhythms, textures, and colors of Recife’s urban culture while highlighting the creativity and resilience of its people.

Barbarize is a musical and performative collective from Recife, Brazil, founded in 2018 by Bárbara Vitória (Babi) and YuriLumin. Blending music, theater, dance, and visual arts, their performances are full of energy, colour, and political sharpness.
Although often referred to as a duo, Barbarize is deeply collective, drawing from the creativity and daily life of Recife’s periphery, especially the favela of Bode in the Pina neighborhood. Their work celebrates Black cultural roots and the vibrant energy of their community, turning lived realities into joyful, bold artistic expression. Their sound fuses Afrobeat, Afrotrap, manguebeat, brega funk, pop, and experimental elements, creating a unique, danceable, and cinematic universe. The group’s audiovisual storytelling — from visualizers to immersive live shows — connects traditional rhythms with contemporary, global sounds. Barbarize’s debut album MANIFEXXTA, has received rave reviews and showcases their signature mix of hot beats, sharp lyrics, and inventive arrangements. Tracks like “Exu,” “Mangue,” and “Boom Boom” demonstrate their ability to mix ancestral influences with modern grooves, while featuring guest artists from across Brazil.
