Sonorities from Southern Italy
Maria Mazzotta's profound and intense interpretation offers a rare and precious experience. Ranging naturally from South Italian textures to Balkanic grooves, her repertoire stems from meticulous research and utmost respect for the cultures it represents. There is a special focus on the vocal characteristics of the diverse traditions she explores.
In 2023, Maria Mazzotta collaborates with guitarist Ernesto Nobili and percussionist Cristiano Della Monica in a new live project. The trio, currently producing and recording an upcoming album scheduled for release by year-end, blends electric post-rock textures with Mazzotta's visceral interpretation, resulting in an original and profound combination. The exploration of this novel sound is rooted in Mazzotta's earliest influences and passion for a genre she once believed would not align with her discographic journey.

The new sound is infused with the power of the electric guitar, innovative effects, and rhythmic percussion, carrying echoes of big cities while maintaining deep roots in the soil of South Italian tradition. The trio, consisting of Maria Mazzotta and the two Neapolitan musicians, Ernesto Nobili and Cristiano Della Monica, engages in improvisation and composition, reimagining both new tunes and rearranging repertoire from the Italian tradition and culture. The repertoire includes tributes to significant figures in the artistic journey of the Salentinian singer: "Terra ca nun senti" pays homage to Rosa Balistreri, a cornerstone of Italian popular culture and a source of inspiration for Maria, embodying virtue, bravery, and strength on and off the stage. Additionally, "Marinaresca" serves as a tribute to the esteemed Maestro Roberto De Simone and his pivotal contributions to musical research. .
